I remember being in third grade and being so excited for my first babysitting job. One of the very first things that I did with the four-year-old twins that I was watching that day was to play “school” with them. That was the day that the idea to become a teacher was cemented in my heart and brain. I realized that not only were children fascinating, honest, and hungry to learn but they were also a lot of fun!

Rene Crombez Math Teacher 517-451-4581, ext. 139Send an Email
After graduating from Eastern Michigan University's music program, I had a complete change of study area, pursuing a masters degree in Physics and Mathematics. I became employed by the university as a graduate assistant and then a lecturer in the Physics and Astronomy Department. Ten years of teaching led me to the Surface Science lab and the Coatings Research institute as a research assistant and lab manager - also at Eastern Michigan University. Six years later, as a result of the financial crisis that started in 2008, the grant money that supported my position ran out, and I found myself unemployed. For the past ten years I worked as an independent contractor handyman. My wife encouraged me to try teaching again. This is my first year at Britton Deerfield. In my spare time I facilitate activities at Riverside Retreat Center in Dundee, sing with the Chiaroscuro Men's chorus, playing with cats, and cooking.
